It will be held on 20 and 21 March in Florence, at the Basin Authority
Arno River headquarter, the first Workshop of the Project PAWA "Pilot Arno Water Accounts", financed by the European Commission. The project will last 15 months and will bring together ISPRA (project’s leader), the Basin Authority Arno River and the international organism SEMIDE, engaged in a pilot action to assess the water balance for the Arno river basin. The second day of the workshop is devoted to illustrate the new system of budget / accounting "SEEA-Water", realized by the United Nations and by the Joint Research Centre of the European Commission (JRC) and destined to become the standard reference for the assessments released by the European Commission on the impact of the actual and future pressures on water resources.

The experimental application in the context of PAWA on the standard method "SEEA -Water" at the Arno basin will allow to get in advance a representation of the water balance and of how its development might impact on the definition of the management plan, and also of the measures to be undertaken in line with the objectives of the Water Framework Directive ( 2000/60/EC) and the EU Communication "A Blueprint to safeguard Europe's Waters ."
