2010: a memorable year: the exceptional growth of mean sea level in Venice and the Northern Adriatic Sea
2010 can be considered as an outstanding year regarding tide levels in Venice. Maximum mean sea level values were reached in nine months of the whole year 2010, as well as the maximum number of high water events registered in a single year. This study is aimed at understanding the features of this phenomenon: atmospheric pressure variations are compared with NAO index (North Atlantic Oscillation), finding a good agreement between the two indexes in the explanation of mean sea level variability. In particular, NAO index fits well the trend shown by atmospheric pressure in the station taken into considerations in different italian seas.
