ISPRA DNA database

3 February Two wolves were found killed by the Provincial Police of Genova.One of them was found without muzzle and the teeth were used to make a "necklace". The crime was committed by a poacher from Sopralacroce - a village in the area of Prato - who was
sentenced to seven months in prison. The indictment was made possible thanks to the comparison of the data hold by ISPRA in the genetic database of the wolf and the DNA from a tooth, which was associated both to the necklace and to the animal carcass.
ISPRA manager Ettore Randi declared that "the gene bank proved to be a decisive instrument for the conclusion of the investigation.
Through our analysis it was possible to refute all the poacher’s statements, denying even the national origin of the two wolves killed".
