Organised by the University of Florence (Department of Agricultural, Food, Environmental and Forestry Sciences and Technologies - DAGRI), the event aimed at bringing together stakeholders from different sectors (local authorities, water management experts, farmers, environmental organisations and researchers) to start a collaborative dialogue on water use in the region. The AG-WaMED project aims to promote unconventional water management while fostering innovative and climate resilient management. The project focuses on the development of sustainable strategies that combine traditional practices and advanced technologies, addressing the environmental and social challenges of the Mediterranean region. The Val d'Orcia region, located in Tuscany, is renowned for its picturesque landscapes and rich agricultural heritage. However, it also faces significant water challenges, particularly in terms of water availability and quality, exacerbated by climate change and increased human activity.
During the workshop, a draft of the Orcia River Integrated Management Plan was presented and discussed. This strategic document is the result of a joint effort to optimise the use of water resources, taking into account the environmental and socio-economic characteristics of the Val d'Orcia.
During the event, Maria Chiara Sole and Vittoria Laterza (ISPRA) highlighted the key elements of the Water4All partnerships work and the Pillar D activities, focusing on the definition of WoLLs, the evaluation process and then their inclusion in the WoLL Atlas and the network. Finally, they announced the inclusion of the Val D'Orcia.
Living Lab in the Water4All Atlas of WoLLs, due to be published in 2025, thanks to the projects focus on policy development and its ability to create value by promoting collaboration between stakeholders, strengthening their collective demands on regional and national institutions.
Water4All participation in this local event confirms its commitment to promoting an innovative and resilientapproach to water resource management at different scales.
