BIO-Lazio - ISPRA

PSR_Lazio_DEF.pngThe goal of the Bio-Lazio project is to create useful products for a monitoring plan aimed at acquiring information for defining the conservation status of Habitat of Community interest over time.
These objectives will be achieved through the creation of cognitive tools and the dissemination of scientifically solid and statistically representative information of the identified territorial realities. The work also aims to provide a unique way of acquiring and managing environmental information and a knowledge base of reliable and standardized data on habitats of Community and conservation interest for the regional territory.
For this purpose, the habitat mapping process will be produced through the use of machine learning models based on precise information (ground truth) and environmental variables (data from Earth Observation and geoclimatic data). All the products manufactured are validated with specific procedures.

The harmonization of these processes will make it possible to respond more effectively to the various needs of territorial planning and regional programming, such as: activating projects for monitoring species and habitats (as required by the EU Habitats and Birds Directives) and defining conservation objectives and measures; implement biodiversity protection policies and conservation measures for Natura 2000 sites, including updating the Standard Forms; compile the databases for the purposes of national reporting on the Habitat Directive; facilitate environmental assessment procedures on plans and projects, with particular reference to the procedure for assessing the impact and ascertaining environmental damage.
