Adopted by the European Commission the “Green Paper”: preparing forests to climate changes, a public debate is launched.

March 1 The purpose of this  “Green Paper” is to launch a public debate about possible options for a  European Union approach to forest protection and to related information systems which should be reliable, coherent and up-to-date. The paper is part of the follow-up to the White Paper on adapting to climate change adopted by the Commission in April 2009.  Competence for forest policy lies primarily with the members States, (MS) under the subsidiarity principle. ( Art.5 of the EU Treaty). The role of the EU is limited and designed essentially to add value to national forest policies and programs. This book should also provide  input to discuss about a possible update of the EU Forest Strategy on climate related aspects. A consultation to the Green Book  is opened to the public, to the member States, to UE Institution and to other involved parties from 1 March to 31 July 2010 on the Your Voice in Europe website (http://ec.europa.eu/yourvoice). The inputs received  will help  to design effective EU policies related to climate and forests.
