The volume, written both in English and Italian, is the product of the five-day-long HMAP International Summer School, held in Trieste (Italy) from the 31st of August to the 4th of September 2009 at the International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP). In the book are compared different disciplinary approaches to reconstruct long-term changes in marine biodiversity and ecosystems from the Roman period until present. While aiming at providing its readers with a better understanding of each discipline's languages, methodologies and needs, the volume explores the potentials to bridge over gaps between disciplines to promote multi and interdisciplinary studies of marine environmental history and marine ecological history. The 18 papers collected in this volume cover a wide spectrum of disciplines, including: history, marine environmental history, marine ecological history, archaeology, underwater archaeology, marine zoo-archaeology, ecology, oceanography and climate science. Although focusing on the Mediterranean and Black Sea, the methodology introduced by this volume can be globally applied.
