Getting to the heart of the project Life ProDerat

The project (ProDerat means "Restoring the Pontine Archipelago ecosystem through management of rats and other invasive alien species"), which started in October 2015, aims at recovering the animal communities (in particular the populations of shearwaters Calonectris diomedea and shearwater Puffinus yelkouan - Mediterranean albatrosses) and habitats of Community interest in some of the Ponziane islands, through the control and eradication of alien animals (rats and wild goats) and plants (Carpobrotus). The increase of naturalness and biodiversity on the islands, as a result of the actions foreseen by the project, will support not only the target species and habitats, but also other species of birds that stop on the islands of Ponza during the migration.
