4th Intergovernmental Biodiversity in Europe Conference
Plitvice Lakes National Park, Croatia,

The main objective of the Conference
is to prepare the European contribution to the 8th Meeting of the
Conference of the Parties (COP) to the Convention on Biological
Diversity (March 2006, Brazil). For this purpose, several issues on
the COP agenda will be given consideration: island biodiversity,
global taxonomy initiative, and education and public awareness. The
participants will also have the opportunity to examine and discuss
the progress achieved towards the implementation of the Convention
and its Strategic Plan. The other themes of the conference will be
Forests and Biodiversity, Agriculture and Biodiversity, Protected
Areas and Ecological Networks, and Invasive Alien Species.
