After the 2 working days of the Technical Committee (Milazzo 7 and 8 May), the partners of the Plastic Busters MPAs project, during the technical workshop of 9 May 2019, will develop the standard protocol to be applied during the testing phase in the first 4 Protected Marine Areas of the Mediterranean: Pelagos Sanctuary (Italy, France), Tuscan Archipelago (Italy), Zakynthos National Marine Park (Greece) and Cabrera Archipelago National Park (Spain).
For the first time, the protocol provides, according to an integrated approach, the contemporary monitoring of marine litter and macro and micro plastics on the sea surface, in the biota, on the seabed and on protected species of mammals, reptiles and birds.
The greatest marine litter experts together with representatives of Union for Mediterranean, UNEP MAP and Ministry of the Environment will actively participate in the technical workshop. The splendid setting of the Milazzo castle is the setting for the event in conjunction with the establishment of the new . The application of the protocol will take place on Marine Protected area of "Capo Milazzo" whereIspra Astrea and Lighea ships will be involved in monitoring activities supported by the Milazzo Coast Guard.
