EMAS regulation

Performance Credibility Transparency

The EU Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS) is a premium management instrument developed by the European Commission for companies and other organisations to evaluate, report, and improve their environmental performance.

The first EMAS Regulation no. 1836 was issued in 1993 and in 2001 it was replaced by Regulation no. 761 which, in turn subjected to revision, was replaced in 2009 by the new Regulation no. 1221.

Annexes I, II and III have been modified with EU Regulation 1505/2017 and Annex IV with Regulation 2026/2018.

EMAS is mainly addressed to improve the environmental protection and provide organizations, supervisory authorities and citizens (to the general public) with a tool through which it is possible to obtain information on the environmental performance of organizations.

The management system relating to the technical activities of EMAS registration, accreditation and surveillance of EMAS Environmental Verifiers are carried out in compliance with the ISO 9001: 2015 standard.

For any information relating to the issuance of the EMAS registration, contact the Secretariat of the Ecolabel-Ecoaudit Committee:
