First Day of Geology and History: Ghost cities: ghost towns between history and geology
ISPRA, the Italian Geographic Society and SIGEA offer six days of educational and scientific seminars, which will constitute a training course on natural hazards, historical research and the evolution of the landscape. The goal is to focus attention on the importance of the analysis of historical and cartographic sources for the study of natural phenomena. The study days will also be an opportunity to share with the national scientific world and analyze the importance of the multidisciplinarity of studies and the short border that separates geology from historical-archaeological research for a careful reading of the territory. The theme of the first day will concern the Ghost Cities or the abandoned villages of Italy

There are many small towns or villages in the Italian territory abandoned in historical times for natural causes. . Ghost cities, however, are in reality little known and information about the causes of abandonment is sometimes incomplete, and there is also a lack of a national census. In this context, the Ghost Cities Project was organized by ISPRA which intends to carry out a national census, to deepen the information regarding the causes of abandonment, history and geological aspects.
In addition to being held in person, the event will be broadcast live on the ISPRA Youtube channel
