WESTMOPOCO - Mediterranean Marine Oil & HNS Pollution Cooperation
The Project Western Mediterranean Region Marine Oil and HNS Pollution Cooperation (West MOPoCo) supports the main Institution of Western Mediterranean (Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia) and European (France, Italy, Malta, Spain) that are in charge in the field of preparedness for and response to oil and Highly Noxious Substances (HNS) marine pollution and in improving the quality and interoperability of their response capacities.The initiative, promoted by the UNEP-IMO Regional Marine Pollution Emergency Response Center for the Mediterranean Sea (REMPEC), has as main objective to strengthen international collaborations and cooperations on the subject.

ISPRA participates in the project on behalf of the Italian Ministry of the Environment with the Project Coordinator Secrétariat Général de la Mer (F) the Secretariats of the international institutions HELCOM, OSPAR / Bonn Agreement and REMPEC and the CEDRE (F) and ITOPF (UK) Institutes. The purpose of this webinar is to present one of the expected results of the project: testing of an investigation tool called RETOSTM "Readiness Evaluation Tool for Oil Spills", designed to evaluate the effectiveness of plans and standards, implemented by the national authorities in charge to deal with accidental pollution from hydrocarbons at sea and on the coasts, to highlight any critical issues and useful suggestions to improve our response system.
