The Tsunami Ready recognition was awarded to the Municipality of Minturno
The Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO has recognized Minturno, in the province of Latina, as the first Italian coastal municipality ready to manage the tsunami risk, for having adequately prepared to face a possible event of sudden flooding of the coast following an earthquake, on basis of the correct application of the guidelines disseminated by the Tsunami Ready program promoted by the IOC-UNESCO itself in 2015.

This program aims to build tsunami-resilient coastal communities through widespread risk awareness and preparedness strategies that aim to protect lives, livelihoods and property. The guidelines whose application determines the "Tsunami Ready" recognition are made up of 12 indicators divided into 3 different categories relating to risk assessment, preparation and the consequent response.
On 25 October, in the Municipality of Minturno, the official ceremony of awarding the diploma of recognition by officials of the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO will take place, in the presence of local authorities and representatives of the Department of Civil Protection, the Institute national team of Geophysics and Volcanology and ISPRA which together manage the Italian tsunami warning system (SiAM), established by the Directive of the President of the Council of Ministers of 17 February 2017.
After Minturno, Palmi, Marzamemi, Otranto and Stromboli are also preparing to become Tsunami Ready.
