River habitats fragmentation is one of the main threats to the functioning of river ecosystems. But river barriers also perform essential functions for society and pose several management issues. The Adaptive Management of Barriers in European Rivers (AMBER) project (H2020) aims to develop strategie to achieve a more effective rehabilitation of river connectivity and ecosystem functioning, taking into account the complexity and tradeoffs presented by barriers. ISPRA will participate.
