The decommissioning of the Caorso nuclear power plant goes on

The decommissioning strategy of the Caorso nuclear power plant, as provided by the authorization of the Ministry of Economic Development issued by Decree of February 2014, forsees interventions of adjustment of existing repositories for radioactive waste (extraordinary maintenance, restructuring, reconstruction) whose implementation could take place through the availability of temporary storage areas, particularly in the turbine building. It was approved by ISPRA the Detailed Project for the adjustment operations of the turbine building for these purposes, including the construction of a station for the treatment of the materials produced by the operations. The adjustment project will allow a temporary storage of the waste in accordance with the requirements of nuclear safety and radiation protection. During the implementation ISPRA will carry out its supervisory activities.
