Presentation of the Air Quality Report - 2023 Edition
Mar 15, 2024 09:00 AM — Mar 15, 2024 04:00 PM Torino, ARPA Piemonte, Sala Polifunzionale, Via Pio VII, 9The Air Quality Report - 2023 Edition, which describes the state and trend of air pollution in Italy, was presented on 15 March in Turin.
In 2023, the annual limit values for atmospheric particulate matter PM10 were respected at all measurement points, as were those for PM2.5 (311 out of 312), with an average reduction for the latter of approximately 13% compared to the average of decade 2013-2022. The daily limit value for PM10 was also respected in 89% of the monitoring stations, with exceptions concentrated above all in the north-east area of the Po basin (47 out of 63 exceedances), in the Vesuvius area and in the province of Frosinone.
The annual value of nitrogen dioxide is within the limits in almost all monitoring stations (98%), which in 2023 marks a reduction of 19% compared to the decade 2013-2022.
The exceedances occur in stations influenced by high road traffic flows: Turin, Milan, Brescia, Genoa, Bologna, Florence, Rome, Naples, Catania and Palermo.
"SNPA contributes to the pursuit of homogeneous levels of environmental protection throughout Italy. With 650 air quality monitoring stations it has one of the largest facilities in Europe and produces 25 million data per year” declared the President of ISPRA and SNPA, Stefano Laporta.
"The 2023 data outline an improvement compared to the recent past. But situations of non-compliance with the limit values persist and we have fallen far behind the deadlines set by the EU directives" declared the ISPRA General Director, Maria Siclari.

Climate change and coastal erosion: in Italy 54 coastal municipalities have high erosion rates
Nov 13, 2023ISPRA publishes the current state of the national coastline at municipal level with updated data
https://sinacloud.isprambiente.it/portal/apps/sites/#/coste
Among the 644 Italian coastal municipalities, those with high erosion rates have been identified by ISPRA; there are 54 who to date have seen their stretch of coast retreat by more than 50% of the entire stretch of competence; there are 22 municipalities with an overshoot of between 50% and 60% of the coast; there are 16 between 60% and 70%, 8 between 70% and 80% and 7 between 80% and 90%. Rotondella in Basilicata appears to be the only municipality characterized by widespread erosion over the entire coastal stretch. If the number of municipalities appears limited, compared to a total number of 644 coastal municipalities, it should be considered that the percentages reported concern the entire coast of each municipality, also occupied by stretches that are not beaches and which therefore cannot undergo erosion , such as the stretches of rocky coast, the river mouths and all the anthropic works. Furthermore, the percentages do not show a "natural" trend of coastal dynamics, but downstream of all the coastal defense works and nourishment carried out.

The Italian System in the ecological and energy transition of the territories
Oct 12, 2023 09:00 AM — Oct 12, 2023 01:00 PM Streaming liveThe fight against climate change and the mitigation of its effects will be the great challenges of the century. To date, the Euro-Mediterranean area is among the most exposed to damage resulting from Planet Fever: extreme meteorological phenomena, drought, desertification are just some of the examples before everyone's eyes. Among the anthropic activities that release greater quantities of greenhouse gases are those resulting from the use of fossil fuels. As regards Europe, it is estimated, for example, that energy processes caused 78% of the EU's total emissions in 2015. The types of energy sources and consumption therefore have an enormous impact on the climate.
