The La Frasca natural monument of the Lazio Region, located in the municipalities of Civitavecchia and Tarquinia, preserves one of the most interesting examples of a marine environment whose characteristics from the Upper Pleistocene are among the best preserved in the Mediterranean. This site, in fact, maintains the characteristics of a beach with depositional structures and fossil remains typical of the sea and the climate of 100,000 years ago. The excursion takes place along a stretch of coast along which it is possible to reconstruct the Quaternary environmental evolution through geological and natural observations of great interest: in the coastal sector a significant Mediterranean fauna and flora; in the marine sector habitats such as coralligenous, and Posidonia oceanica meadows. Furthermore, the presence of Roman structures, modern buildings and the large power plant highlights the difficult relationship between natural habitats and anthropic pressure.
