Climate change is already underway and is destined to continue: over the last few years there have been big changes in the climate system, determined by human being, mainly through the increasing emission of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. In the context of the tools to contrast climate change, a fundamental role is played by the monitoring of greenhouse gas emissions. On the occasion of the communication of the national inventory of emissions into the atmosphere of greenhouse gases, in the framework of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the Kyoto Protocol, information on greenhouse gas emissions will be presented, for the period 1990-2017, emission projections and scenarios, and measures taken by Italy to mitigate climate change. In particular, the most recent news on national and international strategies and legislation for climate change mitigation will be illustrated.

A focus will also be dedicated to the state of international climate negotiations, aimed at implementing the commitments relating to the Paris Agreement, and to the scenarios of change, in synergy with the future multi-sectoral policies and strategies, which will be the basis of the Italian "roadmap for decarbonization".
