How to reduce CO2 emissions in the transport sector in Italy. The guidelines, realized by the Foundation for Sustainable Development in partnership with the Ministry of Environment, aims to define a framework for the development of a plan to reduce the CO2 in the transport sector in Italy. The research will be presented in Rome, on February 14 at the Sala di Liegro, the seat of the Province of Rome (Palazzo Valentini) with the participation of the Minister of Environment Corrado Clini, the President of the Edo Ronchi Foundation and a representative or the European Agency for the Environment. Transport is the sector with the current national record for the annual emissions of greenhouse gases.
The research, both in the analysis phase and in the elaboration of the scenario plan, used the approach of ASI (Avoid / reduce, Improve and Shift), adopted by EEA and UNEP, which consists is breaking the lines of action in three basic types: reduce the demand for transport, switching to less polluting modes of transport, improve technology and transportation fuels. The research outlined hypothetical scenarios of national plans with targets for 2020 and 2030, as suggested in a participatory process addressing the Green Economy (Stati Generali della Green Economy) whose proposals have been presented by Ministers Clini and Passera on last 7 and 8 November in Rimini.
