THE DG UNESCO visited the conservation work of Lumbini (Nepal) made by ISPRA researchers

Since 2015 ISPRA has been commissioned to analyze the mechanisms that regulate modification in the level of groundwater below the Maya Devi temple, containing the sacred stone that indicates the exact place where Buddha was born. The site is affected by rising phenomena of groundwater level that produces dangerous impacts along the ancient walls.

Last 19 April 19 the Director General of UNESCO Irina Bokova visited the site of Lumbini and opened the International Coordination Committee to coordinate the current and future scientific activities.

During the meeting ISPRA presented its studies and the Institute received a great appreciation for having cleared the transferring mechanism of rainfall fluctuations in the groundwater, after a year of specific monitoring activity.
