Ferries as monitoring platforms of marine species
ISPRA and Milano University of Bicocca together in order to monitor cetaceans and biodiversity of sea Mediterranean
The M4M project of the University of Milan Bicocca is part of ISPRA's ten-year project of monitoring cetaceans and sea turtles using scheduled ferries as an observation platform (FLT Mediterranean monitoring Network). For two years, the visual monitoring carried out by ISPRA were supported by the collection of marine water samples to be filtered to collect environmental DNA (eDNA, environmental DNA). An expanding project to create an innovative and zero-impact monitoring system for Mediterranean marine biodiversity.
