Agreement signed between ISPRA and the Italian Botanical Society for the structuring of a national database on Italian fungal species
Fungi are important components of the ecosystem because they participate in the decomposition processes of organic material present in the soil and regulate the balance and exchange of nutrients between plant species. These characteristics make them perfect indicators of biodiversity and the quality of an ecosystem.
For this reasons ISPRA launched the Network for the study of Mycological Diversity in September 2020, to identify, with a multidisciplinary approach, integrated and shared models for the census, mapping and monitoring of mycological components.
In this context, last May An Agreement was signed between the Network for the study of Mycological Diversity of ISPRA and the Italian Botanic Society (SBI) which has as its object the elaboration of "guidelines" to allow the census of mycological components on the entire national territory in order to to build and implement a permanent database (the Information System of Mycological Diversity) with updated and validated data on distribution, status and threat factors.
