COP 15 of UNCCD
The biennial meeting of the delegations of 197 signatory countries of the United Nations Convention for the Fight against Desertification and the Effects of Drought - UNCCD will take place in Abidjan (Ivory Coast) from 9 to 20 May 2022, during which the sessions will be held of the Fifteenth Conference of the Parties (COP 15) and of the Subsidiary Bodies, i.e. the Twentieth Session of the Committee for the Review of the Implementation of the Convention (CRIC 20) and the Fifteenth Session of the Committee on Science and Technology (CST 15). Italy has been a signatory of the UNCCD since 1994.

The COP15 theme, ‘Land. Life. Legacy: From scarcity to prosperity', is a call to action to ensure land, the lifeline on this planet, continues to benefit present and future generations.
COP 15 is a key moment in the fight against desertification, land degradation and drought. It will build on the findings of the second edition of the Global Land Outlook and offer a concrete response to the interconnected challenges of land degradation, climate change and biodiversity loss as we step into the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration.
The second edition of the Global Land Outlook recently published and downloadable from the site https://www.unccd.int/resources/global-land-outlook/glo2 it is one of the main reports on the state of soil and territory.
Highlights of the Conference agenda include the recovery of degraded areas and the mitigation of the effects of drought, but land ownership regimes, gender equality and commitment will also be taken into consideration. of young people in the implementation of the UNCCD, as well as the reporting mechanisms, whose implementation for Italy is managed by ISPRA on behalf of the Ministry of the Environment and Foreign Affairs.
COP 15 will be attended by representatives of ISPRA, as Deputy Head of Delegation and Vice President of the Committee for Science and Technology together with representatives of the Ministry of Ecological Transition and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
