ISPRA participation in RemTech 2022

Sep 21, 2022 to Sep 23, 2022 Ferrara exhibition,
RemTech Expo opened today in Ferrara, the only international and permanent Environmental Technology Hub, specializing in the themes of rehabilitation, regeneration and sustainable development of the territories. The ISPRA president, Stefano Laporta, participated this morning in the conference "States General on the Management and Sustainable Development of Territories. From Rehabilitation to Regeneration. The future of Planet Earth in the ecological transition". The ISPRA president declared that "The flood in the Marche region, but also the serious fires in summer and the long period of drought, must push us to consider a different balance with the natural environments. It is necessary to intervene to mitigate the hydraulic, geological and heat wave risk and for the prevention of fires and the restoration of degraded soils, together with the improvement of urban decor and sustainable mobility, and the energy and seismic improvement of buildings, as well as the contrast of depopulation and the loss of economic attractiveness. in a crucial position to urgently plan the actions necessary to adapt the territory to the impacts of climate change".

Beware of those 4! The alien fishes in our seas to know and recognize

How? The ISPRA and CNR IRBIM campaign teaches us this. Spotted puffer fish, scorpion fish, dark rabbit fish and striped rabbit fish. The four invasive alien species of tropical origin reported in the Italian seas have all arrived from the Suez Canal, for the first time in Sicily, to which attention should be paid to avoid unpleasant accidents. ISPRA and the Institute for Biological Resources and Marine Biotechnologies of the National Research Council (Cnr-Irbim) launch the "Beware of those 4" campaign to inform citizens, explain how to recognize them and monitor their presence and distribution in Italian waters, thanks also to reports from fishermen and divers. ISPRA and CNR-IRBIM invite all fishermen, divers and anyone who has observed or captured one of these species in Italian waters, to document with photos / videos and send their observation via WhatsApp to the phone number + 320 4365210 or post it on Oddfish Facebook group -  https://www.facebook.com/groups/1714585748824288/  using the hashtag: #Attenti4

Drones with thermal imaging cameras to detect wildlife

An experiment in the Castelporziano forest The video tells of the experimentation conducted by ISPRA to evaluate the ability of different types of drones, infrared video technology masts, to identify the presence of even small mammals in the vegetation of pastures. These innovative tools can be useful for researchers to identify animals even in conditions of poor or absent visibility. The activity was possible thanks to the availability of a different drone model offered by the Castelporziano Presidential Estate Service.

Which are the districts of Rome most at risk of chasms?

ISPRA in collaboration with the CNR-IGAG has launched a study project for the susceptibility to anthropogenic sinkholes since 2017. The city of Rome rises above a complex network of underground cavities, for the most part still unknown, produced by human activities, at various times, in more than two thousand years. The presence of underground cavities in particular conditions can cause the collapse of the most superficial layers of the soil with the formation of surface chasms (anthropogenic sinkholes).

National wolf monitoring coordinated by ISPRA in the Superquark television program

On the 3rd August episode of Superquark, the service on the first national wolf monitoring was broadcast, coordinated by ISPRA on a mandate from the Ministry for Ecological Transition - MiTE. The monitoring tried to answer the questions: how many wolves are there in Italy? Where am I? The work was carried out between 2018 and 2022, with a data collection carried out between October 2020 - April 2021 which made it possible to estimate the abundance (understood as number of individuals, N) and distribution (minimum area occupied in the Alpine region and the estimated area in the peninsular zone) of the species.

School odors and emissions conference 2022

In the period between 4 October and 1 December 2022 Rse (Research on the energy system), ISPRA, SNPA, Uni, Accredia and Unichim organize the Scuola Odori 2022 and the 2022 Emissions Conference. Laboratories, researchers, companies, universities and SNPA, Arpa, Appa and PA operators interested in participating as speakers at the events can propose, by 30 August 2022, an abstract of the work they intend to illustrate.

Help the sea in the presence of oil: CIMA project

From September 15, 2021, the technical-scientific collaboration agreement, called CIMA (Contrast to Accidental Marine Pollution by Hydrocarbons), signed between ISPRA and eleven marine protected areas (AAMMPP) in order to strengthen the protection of marine ecosystems in areas of high naturalistic value, through the "Implementation of activities aimed at the prevention and contrast of accidental pollution by hydrocarbons in Marine Protected Areas". When a seabird comes into contact with hydrocarbons, it is no longer able to swim and fly: therefore it cannot find food and escape predators. Find out what you can do if you notice oil in the sea.
