Sustainable mobility in the city? Not really. In Europe, the use of private vehicles continues to grow (by 2020, 250 million cars)

ISPRA presents “Sustainable mobility in urban areas: The current situation and future prospects”.

In Italy, the national car fleet is growing steadily: at the end of 2021 the record quota of almost 40 million cars was reached (Source ACI). The car continues to be perceived as an indispensable asset, which is always the first choice for traveling home / school or home / work.
The Italian situation is not an exception in Europe: all 27 states have seen their car fleet grow over time with the exception of Bulgaria. In the old continent, 250 million were in circulation at the end of 2020.
