Crimes against wild birds. A thematic focus for an effective law enforcement

The purpose of this document is to contribute towards the implementation of the National Action Plan on Illegal Killing, Taking, and Trade of Wild Birds (IKB). Namely, Action 2.1.2 aims to “promote greater awareness among prosecutors and judges of wildlife crime, with particular reference to the various illegal practices and the repercussions they may have on the state of conservation of the ornithological species involved”. 

Estimated 0.9% increase in emissions in 2022 compared to 2021

On the basis of the data available for 2022, as a result of the recovery of economic activities on the one hand and the containment of natural gas consumption on the other, an increase in greenhouse gas emissions is estimated at national level; in fact, in 2022 emissions on the national territory increased by 0.9% compared to 2021 against a 2.6% increase in GDP.

Online the new section Environment and Health

The new section of the ISPRA portal dedicated to the Environment and Health Observatory is online, created to strengthen ISPRA's initiatives on the subject of Environment and Health. The activities of the Observatory also underline the commitment and strategic role of ISPRA in support of the Ecological Transition. The topics covered such as air pollution, sustainable mobility, urban greenery, climate change, environmental assessments and authorizations, the circular economy, contaminated sites, environmental damage, water pollution, biodiversity and communicable diseases, antimicrobial resistance, chemicals are priority aspects for a resilient, protective and inclusive sustainable development.

National plan for adaption to climate change

The National plan for adaption  to Climate Change  has been published on the website of the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security. The main objective of the PNACC is to provide national guidelines for the implementation of actions aimed at minimizing the risks deriving from climate change, improving the adaptive capacity of natural, social and economic systems and taking advantage of any opportunities that may arise present with the new climatic conditions.

First Coordination Meeting on the Mediterranean Strategy for the Prevention, Preparedness and Response to Marine Pollution from Ships (2022-2031)

ISPRA participated in the meeting held in Malta from 29 November to 1 December 2022 at the Regional Emergency Response Center for Mediterranean Marine Pollution (REMPEC). This meeting was held with the support of the Mediterranean Trust Fund (MTF) and the discretionary contribution of the Italian Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security. The objective of the meeting was the definition of priority actions for the two-year period 2024-2025 and beyond to collectively address the pollution caused by ships in the Mediterranean by 2031.

In Naples the meeting of experts for the implementation of the NEAMTWS strategy

The international working group that deals with implementing the strategy of the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC-UNESCO) for the management of tsunami risk in the Mediterranean and in the eastern Atlantic, met in Naples on 28-30 November 2022. They were more than 60 experts were present, representing the institutions that manage the warning systems for earthquakes and the possible consequent tsunamis in the countries bordering the Mediterranean Sea basin and in the European part of the Atlantic Ocean. The meetings served to present the progress of the systems for detecting rising sea level (for Italy, ISPRA with its monitoring stations is responsible) and rapid warning systems for tsunami-genic seismic phenomena.

Pollution in marine sediments. How to improve data quality

Homogeneity and coherence: these are the fundamental characteristics that environmental data must have in order to be used on a large scale. Access to good quality data on pollutants in marine sediments is of paramount importance for the assessment and adoption of appropriate measures for environmental management.

At Geo the LIFE Perdix project coordinated by ISPRA

In the December 15th episode of Geo, the service "La Valle del Mezzano" was broadcast, in which the LIFE Perdix project, coordinated by ISPRA, and carried out jointly with the other partners was also discussed. The activities to protect the Italian gray partridge and what is being done for its reintroduction into nature were illustrated.
