World Wetlands Day
World Wetlands Day is celebrated on 2 February each year to raise awareness of the important role these areas play for people and our planet. Wetlands, such as lagoons, are among the most productive environments in the world, characterized by a high biological diversity.

In July 2022 ISPRA presented the results of the Life Lagoon Refresh Project which had as its objective the introduction of fresh water from the Sile River to the Venice Lagoon, to restore the saline gradient, recreate the reed habitat, improve the lagoon environment and its biodiversity. In the Venice Lagoon, thanks to the Project, fresh water has thus returned and the typical species of this habitat are seen again.
