The wolf arrives in the EcoAtlas of ISPRA

A new story in the ISPRA EcoAtlas tells the results of the national monitoring of the wolf with infographics, maps and data that photograph, for the biological year of the species 2020-2021, the consistency and distribution of the species in our country.
After three years of work, the results of the national monitoring of the wolf coordinated by the Higher Institute for Environmental Protection and Research ISPRA on behalf of the Ministry for the Environment and Energy Security are available in the EcoAtlante ISPRA, the thematic portal that allows to discover, view and share national and local environmental information from PCs, tablets and smartphones.

The estimate of the number of wolves on a national scale is given in maps that are colored according to the nuances of the probability of presence. These are just some of the final results of a long process that began in 2018 with a preparatory conference, followed by the establishment of a study group of experts in 2019 and ended in 2022 with the results of the statistical analyzes on the data collected. In between, many activities and the campaign to collect signs of the species' presence, which took place between October 2020 and April 2021 in a deserted Italy, suspended at times unrecognizable and in disbelief at the effects of the pandemic.
