Soil erosion and forest degradation are both interdependent aspects of the same problem and the foreseen worsening of environmental stressors due to global changes will worsen this problem in all continents. Therefore, any attempt to mitigate soil erosion cannot be set up without taking into consideration the condition of the forest cover of a certain territory.
The selection of “functionally suitable” plant species able to mitigate soil erosion while performing their own specific role, it could represent one of a sustainable strategy for forest restoration.
This approach could also supplement the adoption of “forest assisted migration” strategy. The combination of soil erosion mitigation with forest restoration could succeed not only to protect the natural capital of a territory but also could contribute to the economical development of its population. These fundamental principles which inspire a modern vision of Forest Landscape Restoration fully integrated in the widest concept of “green economy” will be discussed in this conference.
The conference will be divided in 2 sessions :
- Main concept
- General concept of soil erosion
During the conference will speak, among others, also experts from the University of Tuscia, University of Florence, FAO Forestry Department of the United States, the International Union of Forest Research Organizations.
