In Europe more than 2.5 billion tons of waste are produced every year: 90% are industrial and special waste, hazardous and non-hazardous. The 12 Italian landfills authorized to receive and dispose them correctly decrease year by year, while both the production of waste and the need for environmental remediation increase. A dedicated situation that must be tackled with wide-ranging planning and rigorous scientific bases.
