World Whale and Cetacean Day: ISPRA and ARPA Sicily celebrate the sea with students

On the occasion of World Whale and Cetacean Day, on 21 February, ISPRA and ARPA Sicilia are organizing a day-event dedicated to the sea and to the students of the classes participating in the courses for transversal skills and orientation - PCTO 2024-25 DLands of ISPRA (Liceo B. Croce, Palermo) and the classes of the PCTO 2023-24 ReStreet (Address Construction, Environment and Territory of the M. Rutelli Institute, Palermo), at the Roosevelt buildings in Palermo. A path along 16 stations between the structures of ARPA Sicilia and ISPRA to explore the marine environment through science, history, art and literature, thanks to the participation of important research bodies such as CNR-IAS, Stazione Zoologica Anton Dohrn, INGV and the Superintendency of the Sea

The event is financed by the Scienze Together NET project, a European network that unites ISPRA with the main Research Institutions and Universities to promote scientific dissemination alongside scholars and researchers. Educational stations, laboratories and information points will be available with researchers and technologists from the participating institutions, exhibitions and exhibitions of scientific and historical finds

An immersive and interactive educational path

Students will be able to participate in laboratories, exhibitions and exhibitions of scientific and historical artefacts, meeting researchers and technologists who will talk about their experiences and research on the sea

The students as protagonists: an educational adventure between science and play

The educational path is structured in 16 numbered stations, distributed in the ISPRA and ARPA buildings, which the students will visit in teams of 5/6 participants

Our commitment to protecting the marine environment

The objective of the day is to raise young people's awareness of the importance of scientific knowledge for the protection of the marine environment, making them understand the crucial role of the oceans for the survival of the planet. The initiative also aims to enhance the presence in the area of ​​ISPRA, ARPA Sicilia and other research bodies involved in protecting the environment on a daily basis.
This day-event not only celebrates the beauty and complexity of the marine world, but also represents an opportunity to train new generations in scientific and environmental citizenship, stimulating in them a critical and responsible awareness towards the future of our planet. An event that combines science, education and entertainment, preparing tomorrow's citizens to become conscious custodians of the seas and oceans.
