Ecological sensibility
This index provides a measure of the intrinsic predisposition
of the landscape physiographic unit to the risk of ecological
and environmental degradation, in analogy to what defined at the
scale 1:50,000 for biotopes.
It is based on the analysis of the ecological systems structure
related to the specific physiographic unit. In particular, after
the experimentation of several indicators, it was decided to use
only the Jaeger fragmentation index (Landscape Division Index)
calculated on natural systems, which by itself is a good overall
indicator of environmental sensibility related to a physiographic
unit.
To calculate the environmental sensibility we follow two
phases:
- the bundling and merging of ecological systems based on their
naturalness value, using the map of ecological systems;
- the index of fragmentation of ecological systems with high
naturalness is then calculated.
