Map of the Nature at the scale 1 250.000

The scale 1:250.000 has been choosen in order to indentify the Italian landscapes, their variability and complexity.

A period of study and experimentation began in 1996, during which the methods of realisation had been defined. The "Map of the Italian landscape physiographic types and units" was completed in 2000, covering all the Italian territory.

For the evaluation of the environmental quality and vulnerability of the physiographic landscape units, representative indicators and indices were defined in collaboration with the Department of Biology of the University of Trieste.
