The main scale of analysis
Two main range of study have been chosen: an extensive (regional) one and a detailed (local) one, explained below.
In particular, the 1:10,000 scale is a key tool to carry out environmental assessments or to plan local safeguard actions.
Different environmental units are mapped, depending on the scale, as follows:
1) 1:250.000 scale: “landscape types and units”
2) 1:50.000 scale: “habitat - biotope”
3) 1:10.000 scale: “habitat - biotope”

Map of the landscape physiographic
units These territorial units are recognised and mapped accordin to their peculiar physiography, land coverage and geographic features. |
Evaluation of the landscape physiographic
units Indices of environmental quality and vulnerability are calculated for each mapped landscape physiographic unit, on the basis of ad-hoc models |

Map of the habitats Mapped according to the Map of the Nature national legend derived from the EU nomenclature code “CORINE Biotopes” |
Evaluation of the biotopes Indices of environmental quality and vulnerability are calculated for each cartographic biotope, on the basis of ad-hoc models |

Several technical documents show the methodology adopted to realise the cartography and the evaluations. Such documents (in Italian language) are available on the ISPRA website, in the page dedicated to the Publications and technical documents.
All the cartographic products, associated databases and ancillary data used for mapping, editing and modeling are included in a dedicated Geographic Information System.
