Air quality monitoring: the contribution of Copernicus and national collaboration

How is air pollution monitored in Italy? Which bodies are responsible for this and how does the European Earth observation program Copernicus support monitoring and forecasting of air quality at national, regional and local levels?

A new video, produced thanks to the collaboration between the European Center for Medium-Term Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) and an Italian partnership coordinated by ISPRA, offers an in-depth analysis of these issues. The partnership involves eight regional environmental protection agencies belonging to the National System for Environmental Protection (SNPA) and is part of the initiatives of the National Collaboration Program (NCP) promoted by the European Union to encourage the adoption of Copernicus instruments by part of the Member States, with particular reference to the Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS).

The video was realized under the CAMS2_72IT_bis agreement between Copernicus-ECMWF and ISPRA and illustrates the role of national collaboration in improving air quality through satellite data and advanced forecasting models.
