ISPRA protagonist of the Italy-China Week of Science, Technology and Innovation
The 13th edition of the Italy-China Week of Science, Technology and Innovation begins today (26-28 November – Naples, Venice) to discuss the value of science and technology in tackling the great challenges of our time. The event takes place as part of the Italy-China bilateral scientific and technological cooperation program and is promoted by the Governments of the two countries through the Ministry of University and Research of the Italian Republic and the Ministry of Science and Technology of the Republic Popular Chinese. The program is coordinated, for Italy, by the Idis-Città della Scienza Foundation in collaboration with the National Research Council.

ISPRA is among the protagonists of this edition, with the participation of experts in the thematic sessions aimed at strengthening cooperation on the priorities for the two countries in terms of research and innovation, such as the Reduction of Disaster Risks, the Conservation of Artistic Heritage and Cultural, the Coasts, the Seas and the Oceans. During the interventions, ISPRA experts will illustrate the results of studies and research regarding the geological effects induced by recent earthquakes in Italy and China for the evaluation of seismic intensity, the protection of Italian cultural heritage from natural risks in a context of climate change and scientific research within the collaboration between ISPRA and Zhejiang Ocean University with the experience of the joint Sino-Italian laboratory of functional biology and genomics of marine biota.
During the opening ceremony of the event in the presence of the Ministers of the respective countries Anna Maria Bernini, Minister of University and Research of the Italian Republic and Yin Hejun, Minister of Science and Technology of the People's Republic of China, the First Project Annex will be signed to the Memorandum of Understanding between ISPRA and the Chinese Geological Survey (2022-2027) with the official start of joint collaboration activities between the Parties. The research activities of the Implementation Agreement that will be signed in Naples will concern the study of active strike-slip faults, their identification, monitoring and the warning system. In this regard, two study areas have been identified in Puglia (Mattinata area) and the Liangshan region (southern Sichuan).
The Cooperation Agreements, signed as part of the Inaugural Ceremony of the initiative, represent the official launch in an institutional framework of joint projects between institutions, universities, research bodies and companies of the two countries. The cooperation between ISPRA and the Chinese Geological Survey has been active for over ten years and the collaboration of ISPRA with the Zhejiang Ocean University has been active for over ten years, both within the framework of Memoranda of Understanding. During the event, ISPRA will also have the opportunity to hold One-to-One meetings with universities and other research centers, Chinese hubs involved in research and innovation. The Italy-China Week represents a bridge between cultures and innovation, an important opportunity for dialogue between the two countries to build new academic, scientific and industrial partnerships.
