IFE Conceptu Maris: CONservation of CEtaceans and Pelagic sea TUrtles in Med: Managing Actions for their Recovery In Sustainability”

With their movements in the open sea in the Mediterranean, cetaceans and sea turtles find themselves dealing with a growing number of threats, including plastic pollution, maritime traffic and commercial fishing.

The LIFE Conceptu Maris project, co-financed by the European Commission under the LIFE Program 2014-2020, aims to collect new data on the distribution of large cetaceans and sea turtles in the Mediterranean, and evaluate the impact of the main factors of risk in the different seasons, identifying the most important sites (ecological corridors) and those most at risk for the conservation of the most threatened species.

The project is coordinated by ISPRA with the collaboration of a partnership that brings together important public and private institutions involved in the research and conservation of these fragile giants of the sea: the “Capo Carbonara” Marine Protected Area, CIMA Research Foundation, CMCC Euro-Mediterranean Center on Climate Change, ÉcoOcéan Institut (France), Anton Dohrn Zoological Station, Triton Research, University of Milan-Bicocca, University of Palermo, Universitat de València (Spain), University of Turin.
