The meeting allowed the following topics to be addressed:

  • national experiences and activities in the management of contaminated sites;
  • good restoration practices and application aspects of the relevant legislation

During the morning, the systems and procedures adopted in the two countries were compared, with particular attention to responsibility profiles. ISPRA experts illustrated:

  • Italian legislation regarding the management of contaminated sites;
  • the programs and technical tools developed by the Institute, such as MOSAICO, the Romeplus and ROCKS software, as well as the guidelines on the use of landfill materials and the technical documents relating to reclamation technologies.

The management and remediation of contaminated sites represent a topic of great interest for South Korea. The Korea Environment Corporation had already visited ISPRA in 2018 for an initial exchange of experiences regarding the characterization of contaminated sites in Italy and the cycle of controls and of environmental prevention.

The visit renewed and strengthened the interest of the Korea Environment Corporation in developing way of cooperation with ISPRA on these issues of common relevance. The meeting is part of the consolidated lines of international technical-scientific cooperation promoted by the Institute, in support of environmental protection and sustainability.
