Excursion to discover the geology and geodiversity of Monte Vettore
The third "World Geodiversity Day" will be celebrated on Sunday 6 October, proclaimed by UNESCO in 2021. Geodiversity is also considered the "silent partner of biodiversity" as it is the set of geological-geomorphological characteristics and phenomena that accompany and sometimes, they influence the development of life on earth. Geodiversity Day is a global celebration aimed at promoting its many aspects and importance for society.

On this occasion, the ISPRA Geological Service Department, in collaboration with the Sibillini Mountains National Park, will organize a guided excursion to discover the geology and geodiversity of Monte Vettore, one of the 200 geosites of greatest scientific interest at according to the International Union of Geological Sciences (IUGS).
ISPRA geologists and Park officials will illustrate to participants the characteristics and geological processes that have led to the evolution of a territory with exceptional naturalistic and landscape value, but also to extremely calamitous events such as the earthquake that hit Italy Central in 2016. A place that reminds us how necessary it is to know the geological past for a more sustainable future.
