P0022050 GEREMIA

The GEREMIA project, funded under the 2nd Notice of the Italian-France Maritime Cross-Border Cooperation Program 2014-2020, aims to define tools of "governance" for the prevention and containment for pollution control and the improvement of water quality in ports, as well as the development of innovative systems to assess the waters quality in the Italy-France cross-border area.

The project, launched on March 1, 2018, will end on May 31, 2021. The overall target of the project concerns the preparation, in the Italy-France cross-border area, of a joint plan for the management of port water quality, limiting the possible impacts on the surrounding marine environments.

The development of the modern ports represents an undeniable and essential economic resource for the territories involved by the Program. At the same time, port waters are susceptible to both endogenous pollution risks linked to internal anthropic activities and to exogenous pollutant waste water entering in port. Port waters and surrounding coastal and marine environments are mutually connected and the quality of port waters has significant impacts on the outside.

For the development of some activities ISPRA also relies on the support of ARPA Liguria, by which other numerous collaborations are in progress, and Polytechnic University of the Marche, through specific agreements that regulate reciprocal activities and dedicated resources.
