Batteries of ecotoxicological tests for sediment of marine and brackish waters

This Manual continues the series “The handbooks of ecotoxicology” started with the publication of  the Guideline 67/2011 “Batteries of ecotoxicological tests for sediment of marine and brackish waters”, following the same structure. After a review of the scientific literature, an approach for the identification of bioassay batteries for the assessment of freshwaters and related sediments, according to each type of environment and objective, has been described. This document reports the different applications of identified bioassays batteries and is composed into 5 parts: Criteria for the battery identification; Criteria for the evaluation of the ecological and practical validity of the batteries; Organism and endpoint identification; Battery composition and evaluation; Toxicity scales and integrated indexes.
