The Municipal Waste Report is the result of complex effort of data collection, analysis and processing by ISPRA's National Waste and Circular Economy Centre, with the support of regional and provincial Environmental Protection Agencies.

Its purpose is to provide an objective, timely and constantly updated information framework to support legislators in orienting appropriate policies and interventions, monitoring their effectiveness, and introducing corrective measures if necessary.

In the framework of its activity on national operational hydrology, the Italian National Institute for Environmental Protection and Research has developed the distributed water budget model named BIGBANG – Bilancio Idrologico GIS BAsed a scala Nazionale su Griglia regolare , aimed at evaluating over Italy the hydrological water budget at the monthly scale and at computing relevant indicators for the water resource management.

Since then, 175 companies in this sector have been certified in Italy, accounting for 85% of all cleaning service licences issued in the EU. Behind this success is also the CAM issued in January 2021.

Working Programme ISPRA/ARPA: Ostreopsis cf. ovata blooms along the italian coasts. The presence of the potentially toxic dinoflagellate Ostreopsis ovata (Fukuyo) has been observed along the Italian coast since the ‘90s. From then, intense and recurrent blooms of this seaweed alga occurred in several locations of the Tyrrhenian Sea and Adriatic Sea. The presence of the microalgae O. ovata was detected in all the Italian coastal regions but Emilia-Romagna and Molise.

The Report describes ISPRA's commitment to environmental protection through the application of civil liability regulations outlined in the sixth part of Legislative Decree 152/2006, highlighting the key role of the National System for Environmental Protection (SNPA) as the technical support for the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security in actions against environmental damage.

ISPRA, as required by the Art. 199 - paragraph 6, letter a) of Legislative Decree 152/06, states that Regional Remediation Plans of Polluted Areas (PRBs) must provide “an order of priority of interventions based on risk assessment criteria defined by ISPRA”. ISPRA priorities has started and concluded the first phase of developing risk assessment criteria as described in detail in the Report 365/2022
