Evaluation of the environmental impact of important accidents

APAT has long since created a Databank on important accidents (BIRD – Banca Dati Incidenti Rilevanti) There are about 5000 cases registered, which have taken place in Italy and around the world. The changes made over time have made BIRD a reliable system for analysis and control. The second part of the volume concentrates on the study of environmental contamination caused by important accidents: chemical substances involved, damage to the ecosystem and biological consequences.
