ISPRA Stato dell’Ambiente 63/15 pagg. 850 - 854

Abstract

Local authorities are key players in the local economy. As the government level

closest to the citizen, they have an important influence on the environmental habits of

the general public and can provide a major contribution to the implementation of the

principles of sustainable development at local level.

Italy confirms its first place among Member States for the number of registrations in

the Public Administration sector followed by Spain. However in the field of Local

Authorities, in the last three years the number of Registrations has decreased; also

in the distribution by sectors the public administration switched to the second place.

Analyzing the total number of EMAS Registrations, the proposed indicator highlights

the concentration of sites in the cities indicated by the Report. Among the most

significant experiences we underline the Cities of Ravenna, Udine and the Province of

Siena.
