Abstract
The interaction between men and the environment takes place in areas where space
is increasingly urbanized and characterized by a high prevalence of technologies
whose effects have an impact both on the social system and on the bio-geophysical
system. In this view the urban areas represent an interesting opportunity to
experiment on a large scale, along with the highest levels of pollution and pressure on
the ecosystem, policies and models of sustainable development relevant both to the
planetary fate, and for the quality of life. A significant impact on the environment is
certainly exercised by the dynamic of production. In this context, the business
demography can provide important information on the pressure that the enterprises
system exercises on the territory. The indicators "birth rate, death rate and growth
rate of companies" provide useful information to understand the weight and the
evolution that this system has on the urban environment
