Abstract
In the 2014 bathing season, nationwide have been identified 5.507 bathing waters, of
which 4.864 marine and transitional waters and 643 lake and river waters.
Altogether, Italian bathing waters represents 25.6% of all bathing waters in Europe.
In general, a relevant datum is that 94.4% of all assessed waters was at least
“sufficient”. In particular, 89.6% are classified as "excellent" and only 1.9% as "poor".
With regard to the urban areas taken into consideration, in this case represented as
provinces for greater range and significance of the data, the results show that out of
a total of 65 provinces where there are bathing water, 30 have 100% of the waters
classified as at least sufficient (excellent, good or sufficient) and, of these, 16 have all
excellent waters, while in the remaining provinces, the waters are excellent as a
percentage much higher (> 80%) than other classes of complying waters (good and
sufficient).
The
Ostreopsis
cf.
ovata
is a potentially toxic microalgae. The national monitoring in
2014 showed that this species was spotted at least once in 29 provinces. In some
cases even blooms were detected. The 10.000 cell/l threshold concentration value
was exceed in 17 provinces. In some cases bathing was forbidden (Ancona) as
management action, in order to keep bather safety.
